Default Amour choices for Ele/Mo

Hi all, I was just wondering what type of armour would I be looking for, for my level 10 Ele? I've built a 55HP Monk where actual armour rating is unimportan and was just wondering if Ele armour is the same? I mean just get what you like the look of and fit some Runes and Insignias?

I like the look of the cheap 75g Armour from Lion's Arch so should I just get those or aim for a higher set?

Whilst I'm at it, what's a good collectors weapon I can get or one to look out to buy? My monk has the Fiery Flame Splitter for example. Is there a similar for an Ele?

I have Prophecies and Factions though my character is a Prophecies. Built so far is using all fire spells.

Anything else I've missed telling you please just ask.

Thank you.

Hop over to Kaineng Center and get some of the 1k armour there, statistically it's the best stuff available - 60 armour is the max for an ele, and having max armour is an issue for general PvE.

Then mod it up, Blessed or Survivor insignia are generally best (not Radiant. Eles do not need a higher energy cap), the best vigor rune you can buy, a minor Energy Storage rune (again, Superior or Major is a pointless waste of hp), then a Fire Magic rune on your Flame Aura headgear.
Personally, I'd fill the last two rune slots with a Minor Earth Magic (because wards = win) and a Vitae.

As for weapons, head on down to the Marketplace south of Kaineng and check out this guy - offering a Fire Staff for 5 putrid thingies (a quick WTB will get you some easily).

Also from there, you can go and track down [wiki]chung, the attuned[/wiki] - he gives Elemental Attunement, probably the best elite for a Fire guy without Nightfall.

Stormlord, you're a champ!

I'll do just that. Thanks very much.

Dumb question, what's the name of the NPC I buy it from?

Buy what from?

The runes and insignias are from Rune traders,

Alex linked the collector, Attendant Nashu.

And you must buy a signet of Capture (available in Kaineng City) to get the skill Elemental Attunement from his dead body.

I think a better idea is to have multiple headgear for each attribute, that's what I do for all my characters

True, but running a Ward on a Fire guy is also a very good idea

I did that very early before I started using multiple headgear but now I have a +3 Earth Magic rune headgear and I switch to that when I cast wards. A bit frustrating to consistently switch armour pieces but it does maximize output

That's a little too hardcore for me, though it is the ideal choice. The only problem is that it gets tedious if you have more than one earth skill.

Here's what I now have. Hope I didn't blow it.

Flame Aura of Superior Fire Magic
Survivor Chest of Major Vigor
Survivor Gloves of Vitae
Survivor Legs of Vitae
Surviver Feet of Vitae

All on 60 Armour set.

I bought the Staff as Alex suggested. Should I be shooting to acquire something else? 1H and Offhand maybe? A better staff? Of add a +20 enchanting to this staff?

Thanks heaps. Level 18 now and enjoying. Can't wait for PvP!

If you want to get all maxed out for PvP, you're gonna need more stuff - a Superior vigor rune first off; then multiple weapon switches for different occaisions, defensive shield sets, high energy sets... stuff.

Generally, I stick to all-minor runes in PvP, excepting a Major on Mind Blast builds - the extra damage gained by a Superior rune is rarely worth the health loss, an extra 4 damage per pulse on a Heat will not kill anyone, yet conversely having 75 less max health will get you killed.

For the staff, I'd recommend an Adept head (20% half cast) and an Enchanting wrapping; it's the staff you switch to to throw on enchants.
The next major purchase - and a key purchase, imo, for all eles who want to max their potential - is a 20/20 Fire wand and artifact, which allows you to lay down more spells faster than any other set. They're available from various collectors and crafters, or as greens - Droknar's wand and focus for Fire, or (perhaps cheaper) [wiki]Hajkor's Flame[/wiki] and the artifact from one of these guys.

You forgot a rune of minor energy storage, i'd switch a vitae for it. As for weapons that fire staff should get through most pve without a problem, once you have the cash i'd find me a 20/20 set and if you really want to get everything then a +30/-2 set.

To point out the startlingly obvious........elite armour, despite it's name, does nothing more for your stats than common armour with 60AL.

Whether you want to spend the cash to have a certain look is up to you
